Easter Prep

Easter is quickly approaching, so it’s time to start planning out the menu for the annual gathering. No Easter spread is complete without a classic glazed ham – made even better thanks to Louisiana Grills.

Check out all of our tips to getting the ultimate centerpiece for your Easter dinner spread.

Ham Selection

Avoid the urge to buy that discount ham at the grocery store.

Talk to your local butcher and reserve a quality, smoked, bone-in ham. Your guests will taste the difference, and it makes the day that much more enjoyable. It is Easter, after all.

As for how much ham to buy, don’t be afraid to pick up a large ham. Leftovers will last for a week, and there’s so many great recipes for using up leftover ham. You could throw it into a chowder, soup, or casserole – or try it out for breakfast or pile it high for the perfect sandwich.

Use a Glaze

For the most flavorful ham, use a glaze – but not right away! When smoking your pre-cooked ham on your Louisiana Grill, you’ll want to use a sweet rub. We recommend Bourbon Brown Sugar, Maple Walnut, Sweet Heat, or Sweet and Tangy.

Cook your ham until 145°F internal temperature, and then glaze to finish your ham. Try out one of our glaze recipes below:

Apple Wood BBQ – Using Louisiana Grills Sweet Onion Applewood BBQ Sauce

  • 1 cup Sweet Onion Applewood Sauce
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Combine all the ingredients in a medium saucepan, and slowly simmer for 1 hour. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before using to glaze your ham.

Maple Walnut or Bourbon Brown Sugar – Your Choice!

      • ½ cup Maple Walnut or Bourbon Brown Sugar Rub
      • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
      • 1 garlic clove minced
      • 1/2 cup diced Vidalia onion
      • 1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar
      • 1/2 cup sherry vinegar
      • ¼ cup water
      • 1/4 cup maple syrup
      • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
      • 1/2 tsp salt
      • pinch cayenne pepper

Combine all the ingredients in a medium saucepan, and slowly simmer for 1 hour. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before using to glaze your ham.

      Cooking Time

In your Louisiana Grill, once you’ve applied your rub to the ham, allow 15 minutes per pound at a grill temp of 225°F, to get your ham to 145°F internal temperature.

Use a probe thermometer to determine your temperature. The ham can be grilled directly on the grate, meat side down, or placed in a shallow pan with a 1 cup of wine, water, broth, or other liquid.

Covering your ham is optional but uncovered will enhance the smoky ham flavor. Start glazing when the ham reaches 145°F and allow to cook for about 15 to 20 minutes with the glaze.

Just like any meat, let your ham rest 15 to 20 minutes before serving to allow the meat juices to reconstitute. Slice it up and enjoy your Easter feast!
